How to ask
Write to nuruexpressagency@gmail.com from the address on your account, or from any address with the phone number you signed up with. Put Delete my account in the subject. You can also ask at any NURU EXPRESS counter, with the phone in your hand.
We answer within 30 days. There is no charge, and you do not have to say why.
What we delete
- Your sign-in: the account itself, its password and every device still signed in to it.
- Your profile: the name, the e-mail address and the photograph on your file.
- The beneficiaries you saved, with their numbers and their bank details.
- The device tokens that let us send you notifications.
- Any document or photograph you sent us that is not attached to a transfer.
What we have to keep, and for how long
Money transfer records, and the identity documents behind them, are kept for five years after the transfer. That is the period South African anti money laundering law requires of us. We cannot delete them on request, and we would be breaking the law if we did.
So an account with transfers on it is closed rather than erased: you cannot sign in, we send you nothing, and what remains is the record of the money, held for that period and removed after it. An account that has never sent or received money is deleted outright.
Before we can close it
Two things have to be settled first, because closing the account would strand them. Money you have left with us is paid back to you, and any transfer still on its way is either collected or cancelled and refunded. We will tell you which applies to you when you write, and nothing is closed until the money is where it belongs.
This page was prepared in plain language from how the platform actually works. It is not legal advice: NURU EXPRESS should have its legal counsel confirm the retention period and the wording against POPIA and the FIC Act.
